KOTAnow.com: Nelson opposes Essential Air Service repeal

From: KOTANOW

Senator Ben Nelson rallies for rural commercial air travel.

Nelson, along with three other senators oppose the repeal of the essential air service act.

The act subsidizes rural airports to provide commercial air travel.

Nelson says repealing the act denies air travel to many Nebraskans.

He warns the consequences would hurt local business, saying, "This is far more than a convenience or a travel issue for Nebraskans. It's about economic development, job creation and providing a gateway for Nebraskans to get to places that they need to go for business, and about others being able to get to Nebraska for business purposes as well."

Nelson says commercial air travel would end in towns like Scottsbluff and Chadron if the act is repealed.
